Who can apply?
According to Chevening’s current eligibility guidance, applicants must meet all programme requirements. The principal conditions include:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Commit to returning to the country of award for at least two years after the scholarship ends.
- Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience gained after completing an undergraduate degree. Chevening describes this as roughly two years of full-time work and requires the experience to have been acquired over a minimum of two years.
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies the applicant for admission to an eligible UK Master’s programme.
- Have completed undergraduate studies at least two years before the application deadline. For this cycle, Chevening states that the undergraduate degree must have been completed by October 2024.
- Choose three different eligible UK university courses and obtain an unconditional offer from at least one of them by the published July 2027 deadline.
Chevening currently accepts full-time employment, part-time employment, voluntary work, and paid or unpaid internships. Applicants may combine up to fifteen employment periods, but the experience must meet the programme’s timing and 2,800-hour requirements.
Which university courses are eligible?
Applicants must list three eligible courses in their scholarship application. Chevening states that eligible courses must be:
- Based in the United Kingdom
- Full-time
- Scheduled to begin in the autumn term
- Leading to a taught Master’s qualification
The Chevening application is separate from the university-admission process. Applicants must also apply directly to their chosen universities and should verify course details and admission deadlines on each university’s official website.

What does a Chevening Scholarship cover?
Chevening’s official funding guidance says that award recipients normally receive support including:
- Payment of tuition fees
- Approved economy travel to and from the applicant’s country of residence
- An arrival allowance
- The cost of one entry-clearance visa application
- A departure allowance
- A contribution of up to £75 for tuberculosis testing where required
- A travel top-up allowance where applicable
- A monthly living allowance, with the rate depending on whether the university is inside or outside London
Applicants should read the terms attached to their particular award. Partner awards and part awards may differ, and the final award letter confirms the funding provided to each successful candidate.

Chevening’s current guidance says that candidates who reach the interview stage must upload required documents before their interview, including photo identification, an undergraduate degree certificate or diploma, and reference letters.
