Looking for postgraduate funding in the UK? The University of Oxford’s Clarendon Scholarships support master’s and doctoral study across subject areas, with applicants from around the world considered. For 2027/28 entry, the key step is a complete Oxford graduate application by your course’s funding deadline—not a separate Clarendon form.

Deadline: course-specific December 2026 or January 2027. There is no single closing date for every applicant. Open your chosen course page and identify its funding deadline before planning your submission.

What the scholarship covers

The award covers course fees in full. Full-time scholars receive an annual living-expenses grant; part-time scholars receive a study-support grant whose value depends on the course. Funding normally runs for the period when course fees are payable. Continuation charges after that period are not covered.

Check the offer, not an old headline figure: Oxford’s applicant guidance still quotes a living-grant amount for 2025/26. We have not presented that as the 2027/28 rate. Your scholarship offer should confirm the value and duration that apply to you.

Who can be considered?

Clarendon has no nationality, ordinary-residence or subject-area restriction. It covers eligible new full-time and part-time master’s and DPhil courses. DPhil means Doctor of Philosophy—Oxford’s name for a doctoral degree commonly called a PhD elsewhere.

Applicants holding deferred graduate offers, and students continuing the same Oxford degree, are not eligible. Course entry requirements still apply. Selection is competitive, taking account of academic achievement, future potential and motivation; meeting minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee funding.

Scholarship eligibility and permission to study in the UK are separate questions. International applicants should also check the current visa guidance linked from Oxford’s application guide before committing money to an application.

How to prepare your application

  1. Choose a course that fits your background. Compare its academic requirements, research or teaching focus and required documents—not just the scholarship name.
  2. Record the funding deadline. Save the date, time and time zone from the course page. A later admissions round is not automatically a later Clarendon opportunity.
  3. Make a course-specific checklist. Check which transcripts, references, statement, written work or research proposal your course requests. Requirements are not identical across departments.
  4. Start through the official course page. Oxford instructs applicants to complete their own applications and supply their own contact details. Swan Study Bridge is an independent information site, not an Oxford admissions agent.
  5. Submit a complete application early. Oxford recommends aiming at least two weeks before the deadline. Give referees time and check that the required material has arrived; a saved draft is not a submitted application.

Key dates and common mistakes

  • Entry year: 2027/28. Applying in 2026 or early 2027 for study beginning later in 2027 is the normal admissions sequence.
  • Funding deadline: your course’s relevant December 2026 or January 2027 deadline. Check the exact day on the official course page.
  • Do not confuse admission with funding: a course remaining open after its funding deadline does not mean Clarendon consideration remains available.

Our suggestion: keep a small planning sheet with one row per course—requirements, funding deadline, documents still missing and referee status. That makes the next task clear without relying on a single social-media reminder.

Before you apply

Read the live official pages again before submitting. Check the application fee or any available fee-waiver guidance, and do not assume the scholarship covers every personal expense. Only Oxford can confirm admission and a scholarship award.
