Check eligibility first

Applicants enter directly from an accredited secondary school, seek their first undergraduate degree, need a Canadian study permit and demonstrate significant financial need, leadership and outstanding grades. For 2027 entry, high-school graduation must be June 2026 or later. Degree and English requirements apply. Nursing, dental hygiene, medical laboratory science and specified management/dual/joint degrees are excluded; check the full list. Applicants to this need-based programme are not considered for UBC’s merit-based awards.

Apply in this order

  1. Submit the UBC admission application before starting the award form.
  2. Arrange one eligible nominator and a different teacher referee. Invite both through the award portal; their completed forms are needed before your final submission.
  3. Prepare the requested family-finance evidence and student essays, then submit the complete award application by the deadline.
  4. Track the separate January document deadline and later requests from UBC.

Our planning tip: keep a three-column checklist—your tasks, the nominator’s task and the teacher’s task. Ask each person for an earlier internal date, so one missing form does not stop submission. An application is not an award or admission decision.
